Goals and objectives
The Yarning it Up- Don’t Smoke it Up tobacco project aims to reduce related harm in the adult Aboriginal population of the Perth Metropolitan are of Western Australia.
Strategies
The project delivers workshop sessions that involve a thorough explanation of the Yarning it Up- Don’t Smoke it Up model for quitting tobacco, presented in a way that is culturally appropriate and non-judgmental. The project provides information sessions to community groups, organisations and others working in tobacco cessation area. This includes
- understanding the logo
- triggers and barriers to smoking
- personal recovery plan
- educational information about tobacco
Once completed, participants leave equipped with the knowledge that is needed on self-awareness versus knowledge to survive in a social environment.
