Goals and objectives

This research project aims to decrease smoking in people with mental illness by:

  • Acknowledging risk factors and barriers to quitting that are unique to mentally ill people
  • Identifying smoking cessation strategies targeted towards this population group

Strategies

Research will be conducted on international strategies and methods that have been implemented targeting smoking behaviours in people with mental illness. The peer-reviewed scientific articles produced as a result of this research will be used to partner with public health advocates and develop targeted prevention strategies for smokers with common mental illness.
