On 22 November 2012, tobacco control advocates from around WA (and interstate) gathered in Perth at the Wollaston Conference Centre to showcase their innovative programs to more than 80 professionals working in the field.
Attendees at the event had the opportunity to share ideas and build relationships for future partnerships. They were also treated to a surprise “Flash Mob” performance by students from La Salle College (choreography by Shana O’Shea) and a special post-lunch drumming session from Drum Beats. Attendees said they enjoyed the diverse range of presentations and loved the opportunity to hear about the different projects and the success stories from around the state.
The keynote address was delivered by Damien Shen (coordinator of the ‘Give Up Smokes For Good’ campaign, based at Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia). His keynote, ‘Creativity and Innovation’ was inspiring to say the least. One participant noted, “I enjoyed the keynote address the most because it was presented in a very human and innovative way that was very engaging”.
